Reducing food waste around the world would help curb emissions of planet-warming gases, and lessen some of the impacts of climate change.
Food is a precious resource: it takes a lot of time, human work and resources to produce it.
Each of us and we all together can make a difference: we can minimise our losses by using up our food and avoiding food waste.
How much of it has been hiding from you? Unlock the hidden side of yourself, because we are what we eat.
ON TO QUIZ
This is not just another quiz. It will challenge you with real-life situations so you can save food and… money!
ON TO QUIZThe world produces enough food to nourish every man, woman and child on the planet. Yet nearly one-third of all food produced each year is wasted/lost, while over 840 million people in the world do not have enough to eat.
Consumers have a big role to play in tackling food waste: more than a half of food waste EU-wide is generated in homes.
Thrown-out food releases the gas methane, which is linked to climate change. Some consequences of climate change include: the extinction of plants and animals, more extreme weather, rising seas, and migration of people.
Food waste, after all, is waste of the resources that went into the production of food.
Food waste = wasted water: A tiny hamburger, for example, takes 2400 litres of water to produce! Increasing amounts of our food come from countries where water is scarce, some already face severe water shortage.
